About Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP)

The Benazir Income Support Programme was formed 13 years ago in the July of 2008 by ex-Prime Minister of Pakistan Mr. Yousuf Raza Gillani. It is an Unconditional Cash Transfer (UCT) poverty relief program that is affiliated and owned by the Government of Pakistan. This federal poverty reduction program of Pakistan is named after ex-Prime Minister Mrs. Benazir Bhutto as a tribute to the first female Prime Minister of Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The main vision of this organization is to focus on enhancing the financial capacity of poor people, their social protection, health, and education in order to reduce poverty in Pakistan. With a budget of US$ 1.15 Billion, it was considered as the largest social safety net programme which is operating through a network of 385 tehsil offices, 6 regional offices, and 33 divisional offices with the number of employees more than 2500 under the management of Chairperson Dr. Sania Nishtar. The headquarter of BISP is located in F-Block of Pakistan Secretariat, Islamabad.
