About Special Security Unit Sindh Police (SSU)
SSU is abbreviated for the Special Security Unit. This unit is a specially trained anti-terrorist and security branch that is attached to the Sindh Police. This unit is based in Karachi and comes under the jurisdiction of the Sindh government of Pakistan. Its motto is “Proud to Protect”. The operational area of this unit encompasses the whole region of Sindh and covers most of this province. The unit has been operational since 2010. It was founded as a result of an increase in terrorist activities in the province. The SSU is also responsible for providing the highest level of protection to the President, Prime Minister, Senate Chairman, National Assembly Speaker, Chief Justice, Governors, Chief Ministers, as well as foreign dignitaries visiting the country. Presently, more than 3,000 civilians and personnel are employed in this unit. Mr. Maqsood Ahmed is the current Deputy Inspector General of Police for SSU.
